Vouchsafe unto me, O my God, the full measure of Thy love and Thy good-pleasure, and through the attractions of Thy resplendent light enrapture our hearts, O Thou Who art the Supreme Evidence and the All-Glorified. Send down upon me, as a token of Thy grace, Thy vitalizing breezes, throughout the daytime and in the night season, O Lord of bounty.

No deed have I done, O my God, to merit beholding Thy face, and I know of a certainty that were I to live as long as the world lasts I would fail to accomplish any deed such as to deserve this favor, inasmuch as the station of a servant shall ever fall short of access to Thy holy precincts, unless Thy bounty should reach me and Thy tender mercy pervade me and Thy loving-kindness encompass me.

All praise be unto Thee, O Thou besides Whom there is none other God. Graciously enable me to ascend unto Thee, to be granted the honor of dwelling in Thy nearness and to have communion with Thee alone. No God is there but Thee.

Indeed shouldst Thou desire to confer blessing upon a servant Thou wouldst blot out from the realm of his heart every mention or disposition except Thine Own mention; and shouldst Thou ordain evil for a servant by reason of that which his hands have unjustly wrought before Thy face, Thou wouldst test him with the benefits of this world and of the next that he might become preoccupied therewith and forget Thy remembrance.

Indeed, I glorify Thee, O my God! I seek refuge with Thee lest I be numbered among those who believe not in Thee, who return not unto meeting with Thee, who fear not Thy days, who tremble not at Thy justice, who trust not in Thy bounty, and who entertain such thoughts of Thee as were entertained by those who disbelieved of old. Glorified and exalted art Thou! None knoweth how Thou art except Thee alone, Who hath no partner.

O my God! How can I mention my misdeeds in Thy presence, for even my good deeds are sins before Thee, and I am ashamed to mention aught thereof—how much more to speak of my misdeeds which I have committed against Thee!

Glorified art Thou, O my God! Even if Thou shouldst make all that Thou hast created and wilt create into fire wherein naught is mentioned save Thy fire, and shouldst enlarge my body to the greatest extent possible within Thy power, and cast me alone therein, and continue to inflict upon me at every moment that supreme torment which none before me can comprehend—even then I would deserve this as requital for my good deeds before Thy face. How much more for my misdeeds, shouldst Thou desire to exact retribution from me! Glorified, glorified art Thou! Thou art my Lord, there is no God but Thee.

Thou art praised in Thy deeds and obeyed in Thy inspirations. None can question Thy doings, while Thou questionest all concerning what they know. Alas, alas! Now that Thou hast inspired me with knowledge of that torment, my heart crieth out in its inmost secret. Alas, alas! Would that I had died before this and been a thing forgotten, utterly forgotten! Thou art the best of witnesses that my whole body trembleth, my inner being is terrified, and my limbs shake at the force of Thy decree. I know not whether Thou didst inspire me with Thy bounty in face of that torment, or whether Thou didst seek to frighten me with Thy power and Thy doing.

Glorified art Thou! Far be it from any thought of Thee that Thou shouldst torment me with aught of Thy wrath. I perceive in Thy mighty inspirations, at the station of fear, naught but the rising of the sun of Thy mercy and bounty, that my heart might find rest, my inner being be calmed, and my outward self might win Thy good-pleasure. Glorified, glorified art Thou! I seek intercession with Thee through Thee, I place my hopes in Thy bounty and favor before Thee, and I implore Thy forgiveness for all that Thy knowledge encompasseth concerning me. Verily Thou art God, the Creator of all things, Who forgiveth whom He willeth all things. Verily Thou art the All-Bountiful, the All-Wise. Glory be to Thee, my Lord, above what I have committed in Thy presence, and I say according to Thy decree: All praise be to God, the Lord of the worlds.
