Glorified art Thou, O my God! Thou art in truth the Possessor of the kingdoms of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever lieth between them. Thou bestowest sovereignty upon whom Thou pleasest, and takest it away from whom Thou pleasest. Thou exaltest whom Thou willest, and abasest whom Thou willest. Thou succourest whom Thou pleasest, and forsakest whom Thou pleasest. Thou raisest up whom Thou willest, and castest down whom Thou willest. Thou enrichest whom Thou pleasest, and impoverishest whom Thou pleasest through Thy bounty. In Thy grace is the dominion of all things; Thou createst whatsoever Thou willest by Thy command; verily Thou hast power over all things.
Thou causest the night to pass into the day, and the day to pass into the night. Thou makest the moon and the star to appear in the night, and the sun to shine forth in the day. Thou holdest the heaven aloft in the air, and sustainest the air within the precincts of the heaven. Thou bringest forth the living from the dead, and bringest forth the dead from the living. Thou didst originate the creation of man from clay before water, and Thou wilt return him to clay after water; and Thou dost raise him, between water and clay, even as Thou pleasest. Verily Thou art the All-Knowing, the Subtle.
The honoured presence of that noble lady—may God prolong her days—is remembered; and inquiry is made concerning her welfare, and the condition of her son. To God belong praise and bounty: may the gifts of life and health be confirmed unto you. May God—exalted is His loftiness—ever remain the Living, the Compassionate; may He ordain the honour of this presence and bestow its portion.
It is besought that a remembrance be inscribed upon the page, to call to mind both the writer and those who remember; and that this son be made a means for the attainment of that which God willeth, until by God’s grace relief be granted unto all the believers. Let the Exalted Name—our lord—be read and considered; and let it be conveyed unto the dwellers of the Household. Let answers to the questions be set down in the form of verses, that their benefit may endure even unto the Day of Resurrection, and that all may thereby be guided.
Glory be upon all the believers. And whensoever thou art minded to return unto thy homeland, let […] attain the presence of thy mother; otherwise let […] be done. And beseech thou the Lord for the preservation of […]. And upon thee be peace.
