In the Name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

“Upon thee be the peace of God, so long as a star doth shine forth, and so long as the birds of the Realm on high warble and the wings of the spirit beat.”

A brief word, uttered in the mountain prison:

“We have no complaint of God’s decree; Nor is the lion shamed by chains.”

Therefore, cleave thou unto the fear of God, exalted be His mention, for He hath said:

“Whoso feareth God, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from whence he reckoneth not; and whoso putteth his trust in God, He shall suffice him. Verily God accomplisheth His purpose. God hath appointed for all things a measure.”

And the very limit of certitude is this: that, with God, thou shouldst fear none. And the very limit of resignation is this: that thou sorrow not for what hath slipped from thee in the life of this world. Prepare thyself for the Day of meeting thy Lord, for it is a mighty Day.

Let both thy secret and thine open life be made to dwell in the fear of God, exalted be His mention. Say:

“Never shall anything befall us save that which God hath ordained for us. He is our Protector; and in God let the believers put their trust.”

Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of might, far above that which they attribute unto Him. Peace be upon the Messengers. And praise be to God, the Lord of all worlds.
