BB00289: Prayer for Friday

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

God beareth witness that there is none other God but Him, and the angels and they who are endowed with knowledge, standing firm on justice, proclaim that there is none other God but Him, the Almighty, the All-Wise. Thy letter hath reached that Mountain, and I bear witness to that which God in His knowledge hath testified, that there is none other God but Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, the Most Exalted, the Most Great, the Lord of Glory and Bounty.

God, exalted be His mention, hath said:

“God hath made the Ka’bah, the Sacred House, a standard for mankind, and the Sacred Month, and the offerings and the garlands. This is that ye may know that God knoweth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, and that God hath knowledge of all things.”

I bear witness before God on this Friday upon the Mighty Mountain that God hath encompassed all things in His knowledge. O Lord! Bear Thou witness to that which I have witnessed, and sufficient art Thou as a witness unto me. Know thou that God hath said:

“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and in themselves until it becomes clear to them that this is the Truth. Is it not sufficient that thy Lord is witness over all things?”

Then He, exalted be His mention, saith: “When he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in the blessed spot, from the Tree: ʿO Moses! Verily, I am God, the Lord of the Worlds.”’ Say: Yea, by my Lord, this is the certain Truth. Therefore glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most Great.

Open thine eyes, for all are this day in a stupor. For whom shall I speak, concerning whose command shall I speak, wherefore and whereby? None shall deny save him upon whom thy Lord’s mighty grasp shall fall. Verily, He it is Who beginneth and repeateth, and He is the All-Forgiving, the All-Loving, the Lord of the Glorious Throne.

He hath said concerning that which He willeth: “Verily, I am the Essence whereupon no name nor thing can fall, and I am the Gate of Remission, and there is no strength nor power save in God, the Most High, the Most Great.” But out of mercy unto thee, I shall inform thee as one well-informed. Verily, that matter is the very Reality concerning which Kumayl inquired of ʿAli—peace be upon him: For in the first year there appeared the unveiling of the Splendors of Majesty without allusion; in the second, the second; in the third, the third; in the fourth, the fourth; and in the fifth, a Light shone forth from the Dawn of Pre-Eternity upon the forms of Divine Unity, revealing its traces.

Yet it is a test for you, and a fleeting provision for a time appointed. Extinguish, then, the lamp, for the Sun of Reality hath reached the point of its zenith. Say: Glorified be the Lord of the angels and of the Spirit! Thus was a wall set between them wherein is a gate—its inner side containeth mercy, and its outer side, facing them, torment. And as to the Surah of Unity—its secret is one thousand and two and two hundred and one—Lord! Consider the number of His saying “with a wall” (bi-sur), for it is fifteen; and “God” (Allah) is sixty-five; and “Lord” (Rabb) is in the number of tarab—which itself alludeth to the Surah of Unity. And unto this point referreth that which hath been sent down.

For in the Du’aʾ al-ʿAsharat after the ranks of the tens, there are seventeen levels; and each one is a unity among the manifestations of Divine Oneness. Fourteen of these are the Imams of the unseen and of the seen. And His saying—peace be upon Him—“O God! Deal with me as Thou art worthy” is equal to sixty-five, while “Āmin, Āmin” is he who fulfilled his covenant—peace be upon them both and upon their Imams until the Day of Resurrection. The seventeenth is the Surah of Unity.

And the proof of this lieth in the Book of God: for the verse of tahlil—“There is no God but God”—hath been revealed in the Qur’an but thirty-four times, even as the Imam declared in his supplication on the Day of ʿArafah. Refer to it, read it, and in the end say: God! There is no God but He; take thou Him as thy Guardian.

Before the “stroke” is the letter Qaf—By the glorious Qur’an!—and after it is Nun—By the Pen and what they inscribe! And if thou add six to it—counting what hath come from the presence of God—thou shalt behold the House of Unity itself, and the Word of God shall be made manifest: Blessed be the Name of thy Lord, the Lord of Glory and of Bounty!

Then recite the Prayer of Qaf, for it pertaineth to His station. Verily the Resurrection hath come to pass, and that Day with thy Lord is as fifty thousand years. Then read the Prayer of Light and pause at “the All-Compelling”, then the Dawn Prayer and pause at “the Everlasting Sovereign”—1150 aspirations—and add to it one. Know thou through the all-embracing Form which is the very truth of certitude in the knowledge of certitude, and reckon from alif to nun in the abjad—there wilt thou see the number 400, and verily He is the Knower of all things hidden. Then thy Lord arose in Ahmad, and her Lord thereafter, and thy Lord in this.

Then read the Sermon of the Gulf and pause at His words “that thou mayest behold Him Who conversed with Moses from the Tree, manifest, unveiled, and described.” Then read the Sermon of Ghadir and of Friday at the explanation of the striking, then read the Prayer of Adilih at His words “verily death is truth” etc., for the Reality is in His exalted words “Ha Mim Ayn Sin Qaf [=278]. Remember thy Lord, the Merciful, in the number of the renowned year, and the All-Wise in that which is concealed. Dwell in the land of ya and thou shalt find Him, for He is the Truth and He is the Sanctuary.”

Guard thou the mystery of God, for it was made manifest in the year sixty. Put thy trust in God, turn away from the ignorant ones, and say: Praise be to God, the Lord of all worlds.
