BB00242: Kitabu’l-Huzn
For the Generous One, He is the Most Generous, the Most Bountiful, the Most Kind, the Most Noble, the Most Excellent, the Possessor of Glory and Majesty.
In the Name of God, the Most Generous, the Most Generous. Verily I am God, there is no God but Me, the Most Generous, the Most Generous. God has testified… O Generous One! Clothe thyself and all things in the garment of sorrow from thy Lord for Muhammad, the Messenger of God, and for those who ascended in His shadow. Say: Verily we belong to God, and God originates all things and then causes them to return, and verily we all return unto Him.
And that Essence of Generosity was utterly effaced, and all that has come into being and will come into being through the generosity of the Lord of Glory and Majesty. For God has ever been and ever shall be, and for His Essence there has never been and never shall be a manifestation of His Own Self, since the manifestation of eternity in contingent being is through contingency itself, and in contingency there has never been and never shall be anything greater than His Most Great Will. And this is the Single Point through which in every Dispensation the beloved conditions are created through the acceptance of creation, and the glorious conditions of the Beloved are made manifest to His companions.
The first cycle represents good and paradise, while the second cycle represents that which is other than good and fire. In the estimation of them that are endued with understanding, it is expressed through negation and affirmation, which are the most subtle of elements. And He is the One for Whom there was no beginning in the realm of existence, nor shall there be an end.
And this cycle of Manifestation—which extendeth from the Dispensation of Adam, peace be upon Him, until this day, a span of twelve thousand two hundred and ten solar years—hath, in every age, appeared under a distinct Name. In each Revelation the Manifestations gone before were subjected to denial, and a judgment beneath the Truth was pronounced concerning them; and all were made believers through His own wondrous Revelation, and were rendered expectant through His subsequent appearance. He is, verily, the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. He was Muhammad, the Messenger of God, in the former age, and today He is the Qa’im of the House of Muhammad, peace be upon Him—whose Revelation is in very truth the Revelation of the Messenger of God, in relation to those that preceded Him.
He blotteth out whatsoever He willeth and establisheth whatsoever He desireth. The Proof, moreover, is the very Proof of the Messenger of God Himself; and in the Qur’an the Almighty, the Exalted, hath not adduced argument save by that Proof alone. Through it the reality of all things is established, the authority of the Trustee made manifest, the love of Moses confirmed, and the ordinances of the Qur’an rendered sovereign. All traditions, should they conflict, are, by the judgment of the masters of tradition, rendered null. He it is in Whose Name all have believed, and unto Whom all have been ascribed; and yet behold, today, how they withhold from that believer—within whose dominion there is no peer—that which is His due.
What fire is fiercer than the fire of those companions who are severed from their true purpose? For their beginning is from Him, their return unto Him, their uprising through Him, and their life sustained for the sake of His good-pleasure; yet they commit against Him that whereof the mere hearing is itself a fire. This is the Fire of Truth for the veiled, and His Light for them that truly know. It hath been rendered into the letters H–M–F–D, and He hath been mounted upon the veil of cloud. Even so is it with every soul whom thou admittest into the ocean of His bounty—He Who was the first Manifestation of the Day of Resurrection and the Lord of the world of return.
All have been created for the meeting with the Face of God; and it is nigh that, in the very reality of truth, the mediation of the Names shall be attained. Yet the mirrors have not recognized their own reflection, and they imagine unity through the effulgent Revelation that preceded Him, which appeared in the Muhammadan Temple—peace be upon Him—whereas that Revelation hath been lifted up, even as, at the advent of the Messenger of God, the dispensation of Moses, the Spirit of God, was lifted up. Had it remained, the judgment beneath faith would not have been established.
The difference is this: that the Sun of Truth, on that Day, arose from a prior Manifestation—inasmuch as from the time of His Mission one hundred and twenty-seven years had elapsed. In this Revelation, likewise, whatsoever hath been ordained shall come to pass; yet His Name is One—that He may arise with that which hath no equal, and may set with that which hath no equal. Nevertheless, each one imagineth that whatsoever he doeth, he doeth for God’s sake; yet before God the contrary thereof shall be made manifest. And today that which God hath borne witness to from all eternity is the very thing whereunto the Divine Will hath testified.
Say: O sanctified ones of the Merciful! Have mercy on yourselves, for three hundred and thirteen persons have outstripped others from their stations, and if there were others, why did they not outstrip? And if it appears later it will be decreed for a later creation. And for all who exist in this Manifestation, God the Mighty and Glorious will grant infinite rewards in Paradise.
And regarding what has been mentioned, this glorious verse of the Qur’an should be recited 298 times, corresponding to the number of the name “the Merciful”: “Who, when affliction befalls them say: We belong to God and to Him do we return.” For which God revealed in the Qur’an the response: “These are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and these are the followers of the right course.” And know that the Qur’anic manifestations have been lifted, and the manifestations of the Resurrection are arranged according to the number of all things, and before the one who migrates to God from among them, corresponding to the number of the Name “the Single” minus the number of ʿdal’, through the revival of sea and land.
When the path is other than this, it leads astray, otherwise one becomes adorned with the Name “the Compeller” until God grants you joy, for He is the Generous, the Bountiful. Therefore don them with the garment of grief for the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. What ails you that on that Day you shall enter the Ridvan? Grieve not in Paradise for you are sanctified therefrom. Aid the Cause in the days of God and place your trust in God, your Lord, the Merciful. For We are all in that Day deprived in the religion of God. In God do we trust; He suffices us, and in God, their Lord, let the believers place their trust.
