In the Name of God, the All-Merciful, the Most Compassionate

O Thou in Whose grasp are might and majesty, before Whose fear all else doth tremble!

Thou seest, O my Lord, my dwelling-place in the heart of this mountain and Thou dost witness my forbearance. Verily I have desired naught else but Thy love and the love of those who love Thee. How can I extol the effulgent beauty of Thy Lordship, conscious as I am of my nothingness before the habitation of Thy glory? Yet the sorrow of solitude and loneliness prompteth me to invoke Thee through this prayer, perchance Thy trusted servants may become aware of my lamentations, may supplicate unto Thee on my behalf, and Thou wouldst graciously answer their prayers as a token of Thy grace and Thy favor.

I bear witness that there is no God but Thee, inasmuch as Thou art invested with sovereignty, grandeur, glory and power which no one among Thy servants can visualize or comprehend. Indeed Thou shalt, by virtue of that which is inherent in Thine Essence, ever remain inscrutable unto all except Thyself.

Nor can any describe Thee besides Thee; since Thine Identity is the pre-eternal Identity, whose very being separateth contingent things from the station of knowledge. Thou hast ever been without aught existent beside Thee, and Thou abidest now even as Thou hast ever been; with Thee there is, at this moment, nothing whatsoever. Every description in Thy court is falsehood, every epithet in Thy presence but vain invention. All creation maketh mention of Thee according to what Thou hast taught them in Thy dominion. Glorified and exalted art Thou! Thou hast said—and Thy word is truth—“Sight comprehendeth Him not, but He comprehendeth all sight; He is the Subtle, the All-Informed.”

I testify that Muhammad—may blessings be upon him and his House—is Thy servant, whom Thou didst choose for Thy Message, train for Thy trusteeship, accept for Thy love, elect for Thy knowledge, and set in the place of Thine own Self for the performance (of Thy charge), for Thou art not conjoined with the fashioning of created things; verily, Thou art God, the Most High, the All-Exalted. And I bear witness to the trustees of Muhammad, Thy Well-Beloved—blessings be upon them—according to what Thou didst ordain for them in the knowledge of the unseen and delineate of their selves in Thy Book, where Thou hast said—and Thy word is truth—“Servants honored; they outstrip Him not in speech, and by His command they act.”

I testify that my very existence is sin—how then when sin beareth yet another sin? By Thy might and Thy majesty! There is no power nor strength save through Thy will. Wert Thou to chastise me, through the perpetuity of Thine own Self, with an eternal chastisement, in requital for my remembering my self before Thy Self, I would be thereby deserving; for Thou art praised in Thy doing and obeyed in Thy decree. Unto Thee be praise in hardship and in affliction—a praise radiant, resplendent, sanctified, and exalted above the praise of all besides Thee; such praise as Thou lovest and approvest, and which Thou makest a relief from the straits wherein we stand.

By Thy might, I have beheld no honor save in obedience to Thy loved ones, nor abasement save in incurring the displeasure of Thy friends. Through Thy grace I behold my station to be the summit of Paradise, and I entertain no doubt of Thy judgment on the Day of Decision concerning those who differ about Thy signs.

Send, then, Thy blessings upon Muhammad and his House with all Thy breaths, Thy effulgences, and the tokens of Thy Mercifulness—for Thou, verily, art God, the All-Bountiful, the All-Bestowing. Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Might, exalted above that which they ascribe. And peace be upon the Messengers. And praise be to God, the Lord of all the worlds.
